What Is A Thread Lift?
A PDO (polydioxanone) thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure in which absorbable sutures are inserted beneath the skin to mechanically lift and reposition lax soft tissue. PDO is a biocompatible, biodegradable material with an established safety record in surgical and medical applications. Once injected, the threads create a physical scaffolding that supports the overlying tissue and stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin in the treated area as the threads gradually absorb over 6 to 8 months.
Who Is A Candidate For A Thread Lift?
A thread lift is best for clients with early-to-moderate soft-tissue laxity who want a more immediate mechanical lift than energy-based devices provide, without the recovery or commitment of surgical intervention. It is particularly effective in the lower third of the face, where botulinum toxin is least applicable and where fillers alone may not address the degree of tissue descent.

The Thread Lift Treatment
PDO thread lift appointments at Deluxe Med Spa and Wellness are performed by trained providers using a clinical protocol designed for precision placement and consistent outcomes. The procedure is performed in-office with local anesthesia applied to the treatment area.
The Procedure
After the local anesthetic has taken effect, a fine needle is used to insert the threads at the precise depth and vector required for the planned lift. Barbed threads are anchored at a fixed point, and tension is applied to reposition the soft tissue before the entry point is secured. The number of threads used depends on the anatomy and the treatment area; a full lower face and jowl lift typically requires more threads than a targeted brow or neck treatment. Most appointments are completed within 45-90 minutes.
Thread Types
Not all PDO threads are the same, and the type used depends entirely on what the treatment area requires.
Barbed (Cog) Threads
Feature small bi-directional or uni-directional barbs along the suture that physically grip the tissue and allow the provider to reposition it. These are the primary threads used for mechanical lifting of the jowls, lower face, neck, and brow. Once anchored, the barbs hold the tissue in its new position while the collagen response develops.
The mechanical lifting effect of barbed threads typically lasts 12 to 18 months, depending on the client’s tissue characteristics, the area treated, and the degree of laxity present at the time of treatment. The collagen stimulation benefit contributes to improved skin quality that can persist beyond the time the threads are absorbed. Maintenance threads can be placed to sustain results as the natural aging process continues.
Thread Lift Recovery and Results
Immediately After Treatment
A PDO thread lift is minimally invasive, but there is a recovery period that clients should plan for. The procedure involves physical manipulation of the subdermal tissue, and the post-treatment response reflects that.
Days 1-7: Swelling and bruising are at their peak during the first few days and begin to resolve through the first week. The initial lift is visible, but the final result is not yet apparent due to tissue swelling.
Weeks 2-4: As swelling fully resolves, the lifted position of the tissue becomes clearer. Clients begin to see the structural improvement in the jawline, lower face, or targeted area.
Months 1-6: The collagen stimulation response is active during this period. As the PDO material gradually absorbs, the new collagen framework it has generated continues to support the tissue. Many clients notice that their results look progressively more natural and defined during this phase.
Expect mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the insertion sites and along the thread tracts. Some dimpling or puckering of the skin’s surface is normal in the first several days as the tissue settles into its new position. Most of this resolves within 1-2 weeks. We recommend sleeping with the head slightly elevated for the first few nights and avoiding strenuous activity, facial massage, and excessive facial movement for the first 1-2 weeks.
